When I built my forge, I welded 2 angles across the width of the hearth to support the firepot. I did not weld any between those angles and the heat has been causing the hearth to distort and bow up, raising the firepot at times 1" or more. Well, I solved that today by welding 2 angles across to the other 2 and welding the hearth down to the angles. The firepot is sitting flat for the first time. I guess my point is, if you build your forge, don't cut corners do it right the first time.
