I got this in an e-mail this morning from Frank Price's wife. If you are planning to go to Sapelo please read.......Sadly, we’ve lost an important member of our Sapelo Hog Hammock community yesterday. George Walker, captain of the UGA research vessel for 40+ years. He’s an Sapelo icon, and will be sorely missed.I tell you this to forewarn, the funeral will most likely be on Sat, Feb 4th. SEGB January 2012 Meeting

We had a low turn out for the January meeting and election. The out come of the election is : I will be the Forgemaster again this year, Matt Spahlinger will be the new Coalmaster, and Russ Powell will remain our Sec/Treas. Due to the low numbers at the meetings and not much coming in for Iron in the Hat, we are no longer providing lunch. Sapelo Island Meeting

The OBG Feb meeting is coming up in a few weeks. The SEGB has been asked to do the demo or demo's. I need to know who is planning to go, what day they are going over (Friday or Saturday), and what tools you are bringing. Evan, Nathan, Lee, and myself are doing an iron smelt and striking team demo working the bloom into a billet. We need some other demo's for the time in between. Power hammer build

Well after 4 + hours of forging damascus by hand I decided to build power hammer. I will use Clay Spencer tire hammer plans . Got all parts. Will go with something portable 20lb ram and 200lb anvil. Picture coming soon.See More
